How to Wash Your Socks to Make Them Last
onAfter a few cycles of washing, we’ve all been through seeing the once vibrant colors of our socks grow duller, finding new holes, or having a couple pairs go missing. To help you improve the longevity of your socks, here are some tips you could follow:
1. Check the laundry care label
This is a step many people often forget before throwing out the label of their new socks. Most often, these labels suggest the following:
- Gentle wash in cold water
- Avoid tumble drying
- Avoid bleaching
- Avoid ironing
2. Use a mesh laundry bag
Using a mesh laundry bag will help minimize abrasion from the washing machine as well as lint pickup. Although washing your socks inside-out is a nice alternative, a bag may prevent socks from going missing (it IS possible for them to disappear in the machine).
3. Leave them to air dry
Hang or spread your socks to air-dry. Though tumble drying may be more convenient, the heat from the dryer will shorten the life of the elastic, and can cause shrinkage in even the highest quality pair of socks.
